Job Purpose:

Candidate will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of robust risk and controls within the Costa Rica ICG KYC BSU Hub and LATAM satellites to ensure that all required controls are applied and enforced for the functions of this group.

This is an important role, reflective of the increasing criticality of strong risk and control focus within a large operations organisation such as ISG.

Job Background/context:

The ICG Know Your Customer (KYC) Business Support Unit (KYC BSU) is part of the Information Services Group (ISG) Operations organization. KYC BSU is responsible globally to ensure ICG Businesses remain compliant to or exceeding the standards mandated by AML/KYC Compliance organization and regulators. The KYC BSU works in partnership with ICG Business Coverage units and AML/KYC Compliance units to ensure new client on-boarding and periodic client renewals adhere to the AML KYC policy requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is for a Risk and Control oversight of the Costa Rica ICG KYC BSU Hub and LATAM BSU satellite KYC processes, who will perform the following:

Risk & Controls Governance

Co-ordinate risk and control issues, audits, corrective actions for the region and represent the LATAM region in global forums.

Policy/ Guidelines - Policy/ Guidelines development, standardization, awareness, implementation assistance, and enforcement of related policies across the region

Training - development of a risk and control training and awareness program, including providing guidance on all aspects including information security, contingency, and policy adherence

Advisory – Subject matter expert (for key requirements such as AML/KYC, Sanctions Screening, etc) and trusted advisor on risk and control issues to management and staff

Approvals – Review process changes/implementation which may impact controls and provide approvals – control change

Control dashboard/ KRI – develop LATAM regional KRIs and dashboard to provide management with a clear view on ongoing risks/issues

Migrations – ensure all migrations satisfy local requirements relating to ICSA, DPO etc

Self Assessment/ Review

Controls Reporting oversight – oversight of MCA process for LATAM including insuring robust MCA’s exist across all processes and co-ordination of testing and results, inclusive of self identified (IBAM), regulatory or audit issues and recommending suitable solutions/ of Corrective Action Plans(CAPs);

Targeted process reviews -Review of emerging risks, new functions and high risk areas

CAP Validation – review and validation of corrective actions implemented, and liaise with appropriate groups to ensure timely closure

Regulatory/ audit queries – liaise with auditors/ regulators and assist in related review preparation, execution, and management reporting and escalations.


Supervise a team of 1 or 2 Risk and Control analysts in their day to day work across the various ISG Operations groups.

Projects – Assist/ drive regional or global risk and control related projects; work as LATAM specific coordinator for any global related initiatives

Innovation – develop methods to make the Risk and Control team more efficient and ensure local processes are considered in global initiatives.

Presentations – presentation of open issues, CAPs, KRIs, R&C projects for regional and global partners/ leaders.

Relationship Management – Develop strong partnerships within the ISG technology and operations groups, as well as other organizations supporting ISG activities (IA, Compliance, etc.)

Technology/ General

Contingency planning – responsible for ensuring contingency plans are executable, documented and tested

Information Security – responsible for ensuring compliance with Information Security Policy

Person Specification


Knowledge of risk and controls gained through previous roles.

Understanding of Citi’s internal risk & controls policies and processes and the ability to quickly identify areas of weakness

Experience of an operations environment and awareness of the related risks a must.

AML/KYC knowledge required.

Regulatory concepts and other key areas of risk within the operations environment

Ability to perform reviews or processes and identify issues/ gaps.


Ability to manage control practices demonstrating a risk-based approach

Proven success in leading a team

Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.

Possess the ability to work with various levels of management and build and maintain effective working relationships

Strong influence/negotiation skills.

Able to interact with Auditors, Compliance and Independent Controls Groups as required.

Ability to proficiently use MS Office products, particularly Excel and powerpoint


A business related degree would be advantageous, however less relevant than extensive ‘in situ’ experience

Further risk related qualifications would be beneficial
