VMware Business Analyst II – Advanced Analytics in Heredia, Costa Rica
This position is responsible for supporting analytics that drive business optimizations across Marketing and Sales initiatives .
The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical experience in statistics, predictive modeling and other data sciences, as well as solid experience in developing data-sets for advanced analytics projects. The position requires great communication and proven analytic problem-solving skills.
This position reports into the Director of Analytics & Data Sciences, Palo Alto, California, and is based out of Costa Rica.
Support the development of analytic models across areas such as cross-sell/up-sell, campaign response, lead scoring and customer attrition using tools such as R or Python . Develop and maintain reports on the effectiveness of models across these areas.
Develop deep knowledge of VMware’s data assets , extract and prepare data for modeling from Hadoop and enterprise databases, using SQL and other tools, deriving and sharing insights from visualizations, correlations and other statistics with the greater analytics team.
Assist in development of improved code portfolios across SQL, R or Python for increased process efficiency.
Proactively develop analytic subject matter expertise in select Sales and Marketing domains. Work to enhance one’s data science skills and an understanding of how to effectively apply these to business problems. Work as part of a collaborative team, learning from and leveraging the best skills and knowledge in the organization to help the team deliver effective analytic solutions .
Experience : 2-5 years of hands-on experience (or graduate degree in relevant field) using advanced analytics techniques to solve marketing and sales business problems, such as campaign response modeling, cross-sell propensity and next-likely purchase/tactic models. Working knowledge of methods such as logistic regression, tree-based methods, clustering etc.
The ideal candidate has worked with business stakeholders on identifying analytic needs, and develop analytic solutions that are both actionable (from a business perspective) & deployable (from a systems perspective).
Education & Related Background : graduate degree in data sciences, statistics or related fields is preferred or equivalent on-the-job experience (experience in high-tech enterprise business-to-business industry is ideal, as is prior experience from a reputed analytics firm doing similar work).
Technical : the ideal candidate has experience supported the end-to-end modeling experience; with hands-on experience translating raw data from relational databases and Hadoop into modeling data sets (using Excel, SQL, SAS or other coding tools). Hands-on experience with one or more of the primary data science tool-sets: such as R, SAS, SPSS, Python etc. Some experience with Tableau, QlikView and exposure to marketing/sales automation environments is a plus, such as Salesforce.com, Eloqua, etc. Experience putting models into production and use through regular scoring and database updates is also ideal.
Project Management & Communication : Good business & technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
Personal : Strong organizational skills. Ability to effectively prioritize time, manage expectations and deliverables. A self-starter, who proactively looks for new and better ways of doing things. Shows drive, passion and a sense of ownership.
